Benefits of Aquatic Plants

lake managementAquatic plants serve a far more important purpose than just being aesthetically pleasing planted along your lakes and ponds. Instead, aquatic plants can enhance the overall health of your waterways and provide many positive effects to the wildlife found in your lakes. Below we list the many benefits that property owners experience when they have aquatic plants in their ponds.

  • Absorb excessive nutrients
  • Stabilize lake and pond banks
  • Provide a healthy habitat for fish and other wildlife
  • Provide a food source for fish and wildlife

There are many different aquatic plants to add to your lakes, such as Pickerelweed, Arrowhead, Canna, and Blue Flag Iris, and many more. Our company is proud to offer our clients a new product called floating islands, which are floating mats that range in sizes with cutouts for installing various aquatic plants. The floating islands are anchored in position, and the plants derive all their nutrients from the lake or pond water. They provide aesthetic appeal as well as nutrient absorption.

Kelly Plantation Owners Association

The Lake Doctors recently had the pleasure of working with the Homeowner’s Association of Kelly Plantation in the Florida Panhandle. Kelly Plantation sought the expertise of our aquatic weed management services because they were having issues with a bad blue and green algae bloom that was a consistent problem. Our specialists utilized our Greener Solutions program specifically with the application of bacteria and enzymes to conduct a 90 trial to help alleviate the concern. Our team decided to perform applications for 90 days because although it wouldn’t allow enough time to get the pond back to a perfect condition, it would allow enough time to ensure our efforts were working effectively.

We began the process on May 7, 2018, and treated every 15 days for three months, ending the trial on July 20, 2018. We utilized our emergency aerator which resembles a cone shape. Our aerator was critical to our plan, as the products we were using were all natural and more productive in very high dissolved oxygen and water movement. Our aerators offer waterways a nice aesthetic while enhancing dissolved oxygen and water movement within the lakes.

We are pleased to have had the chance to work with Kelly Plantation to restore their lakes and ponds. If you are interested in learning more about our aquatic services, contact us today at 1 (800) 666-5253.
