The Problem: This assisted-living facility had a 3/4 acre pond that was the focal point of the community. However, it had a very severe infestation of filamentous algae covering at least 50% of the pond's surface. The algae was unsightly, interfered with fishing by the residents, and was the source of unpleasant odors, particularly in the evenings. The Solution: The Lake Doctors suggested that they install a 1 HP Display Fountain (link to LD10003T) to help improve water quality followed by monthly treatments with Cutrine-Plus Algaecide (link) for control of the severe algae. It was also suggested that Aquashade Pond Dye(link) be added to the pond to not only improve the water color but to also shade out sunlight and reduce regrowth of algae. The Results: After several treatments for control of algae, the pond is nearly algae-free. The odors have gone away and residents are able to fish again without pulling in large mats of green slimy algae. The Aquashade has given the pond a beautiful blue appearance and is helping prevent regrowth of the algae. The customer is very pleased with the results and has given several recommendations for additional business.
